Client Study: SMIT Passenger launch
Description
The contract involved lifting a 43-tonne passenger launch ashore and setting it down on prepared blocks at a sufficient height to allow the withdrawal of both propeller shafts and rudders. The complete vessel was power-washed and the owner’s free issue coating was applied after discussion with the paint supplier’s representative. Both propellers were removed along with shafts and rudders. New propellers were ‘blued’ into the shafts and keyways before being checked using NDT techniques. All sea valves were laid out for Lloyds Survey and replaced on completion. All shafts and rudders were replaced with new seals and packing to ensure no leaks on launching.
Other voyage repairs included tank cleaning, renewal of anodes, fenders and anchor chains. The bilges were cleaned out. On completion of all repairs the mobile crane was set up to allow the vessel to be lifted back into the water for basin trials of all components.
