The 21st October is Trafalgar Day and we have been contracted to erect the masts and spars on the Nelson Monument which is the telescope shaped monument on Calton Hill which was erected 200 years ago. The structure was built in memory of Lord Nelson and all Scots who died in the Battle of Trafalgar. At the start of the battle, Nelson asked his officer to run up a signal, a simple endorsement of his confidence in his Captains to lead their ships without further commands from their Admiral. On Traflgar Day each year, the same message is flown from the Nelson Monument ‘ England expects that every man will do his duty ‘
This year was the 200th anniversity and a plaque was unveiled to commemorate the occation along with the full Royal Marines Band and numerous dignitaries.
