LNER who carry out heavy train maintenance at their Craigentinny Depot, recently asked us to assist in the restoration of one of their current fleet of High Speed Train power cars. The power cars are being phased out with the introduction of the new Hitachi trains on the East Coast main line, the old units are being taken over by other operators (Scotrail) and some are now running out of the Haymarket Depot.
The train livery was to be charged to the original British Rail colours of blue, yellow and white for a charity tour of the UK, the picture shows power car number 43006 repainted as an Intercity 125 HST. (This is the age of the train advert) A total of around 197 of these power cars were made commencing in 1976.
We assisted by manufacturing the polished protectors around the headlights.
