George Brown & Sons Engineering have been offering engineering services to a wide range of companies throughout the UK and beyond since 1828.

We operate departments specialising in engineering servicesship repairsautomotive engineering and lifting and testing.  By employing the key skills available through these specialisations, George Brown & Sons are able to undertake a huge variety of different jobs for our clients in all kinds of environments.’

Meet our team

George Brown

Managing Director 

Prior to joining George Brown & Sons in 1985, George served his four year cadetship with Ocean Fleets in Birkenhead on Blue Funnel and Elder Dempster ships.  He then joined Overseas Containers Ltd and sailed for six years on the re-engine Liverpool Bay class motor ships obtaining his Chief Engineers ticket.

In the past 25 years with the Company, assisted by
his father and the late Tom Duncan, a huge experience of engineering knowledge has been built up allowing diversification of the Companies customers and activities.


Henry Boyd

James Mulraney

Tom Wylie

Assistant Manager

Completed his apprenticeship at James Bowen and Sons where they specialised in Gardner engines. He spent 18 years at Bowens where he progressed to working chargehand before moving to the Scottish Bus Group. Tom joined George Brown & Sons in 1990 where he is now Assistant Manager.


Steven McIntosh

Assistant Manager

Joined George Brown & Sons on a temporary contract of 4 weeks in 1988 in their machine shop, having previously served his time as a turner /miller with Ferranti Ltd at their laboratory workshop at Crewe Toll, Edinburgh. He then moved to Alexander Mathers, James Ritchie & Son and Millers Foundry gaining experience of light to heavy machining.
